Jess Yau
Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy
Fitzrovia and Bloomsbury, Central London

I am an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Prior to practising privately, I worked in the voluntary sector across mental health and addiction recovery settings.
I have a particular interest in questions of identity, belonging and what it means to feel truly known. This includes working with individuals who feel a sense of displacement, such as those who are bicultural or who have grown up between cultures and communities, and those whose early experiences left them feeling unseen, misunderstood or disconnected from parts of themselves.
I see individuals in-person in Fitzrovia and Bloomsbury, and online, for long-term and short-term therapy.
Therapy with me is a space to develop a deeper understanding of yourself. We'll explore what informs the way you move through life, relationships and emotions.
Much of what shapes us originates in early experience. Patterns formed in childhood have a way of persisting quietly into adulthood, influencing our behaviours, feelings and relationships in ways we may not immediately recognise. I help you become more aware of these patterns as a process that can lead to genuine change, greater self-compassion and a stronger sense of agency in your own life.
This can be valuable during moments of crisis or change. Where something from the past remains unprocessed, I believe it deserves time and care - not to be rushed toward resolution, but allowed to unfold at a pace that feels right for you.
As an integrative counsellor, I draw from psychodynamic, person-centred and cognitive behavioural approaches, adapting my approach to the needs of each individual.
Central to how I work is the therapeutic relationship between us. Feeling safe and genuinely understood is often what allows the deeper work to take place.
Areas I work with include:
Relationship difficulties and attachment
Cultural identity, displacement and belonging
Growing up feeling emotionally unseen, unheard or misunderstood
Family relationships and relational patterns
Low self-esteem and self-worth
Loss and bereavement
Maintaining recovery from addiction
Anxiety
Depression
My fee is £75 per session and I am based in Fitzrovia and Bloomsbury in central London. Sessions are 50 minutes and take place weekly.
I see individuals in person and online, typically on a long-term or open-ended basis as I believe this allows for the deepest and most lasting change. Short-term therapy is also available for those seeking a focused period of therapeutic work (6-12 weeks).
I reserve a limited number of low-cost slots for individuals on a lower income. If this applies to you, please get in touch to discuss.
I offer a free introductory phone call to those considering therapy with me, lasting around 15 minutes. It provides you with an opportunity to talk briefly about what brings you to therapy and to ask any questions about working together.
